MR6 MacRebur
Available in store
- MR6 is manufactured from a mix of polymers and is designed to extend the binder in any asphalt mix.
- The product is used where unmodified binder (liquid asphalt) is normally specified, for instance all base, binder and surface course asphalt material on standard traffic roads, footways, etc.
- MR6 is used as a direct replacement for neat binder used in asphalt and is typically dry mixed at asphalt plant.
MacRebur manufactures polymer blends from recycled waste plastics, designed to extend or modify the bituminous binder in asphalt mixes. These blends are created under strict quality control measures, blending waste plastics to create unique products.
These products are added directly into the asphalt production plant, similar to fibres or pigments. They fully break down and homogenize into the asphalt binder during the manufacture of hot mix asphalt, preserving the usual mixing times and temperatures. The finished asphalt remains compliant with EN13108 standards, eliminating the need for redesigns.
MR6 is manufactured from a blend of recycled polymers and is designed to modify asphalt, enhancing its deformation resistance and stiffness without compromising its performance at low temperatures. MR6 aims to replace conventional polymer-modified bitumen (PMBs) at a lower cost while improving overall asphalt performance.
MR6 uses and applications
The use of MR6 allows for a highly flexible approach to bitumen modification. Levels of modification can be adjusted to meet the specific needs of each project. By modifying the bitumen during production, small tonnages can be produced without the need to dedicate a tank for conventional polymer-modified bitumen. Automated feeding systems enable the production of large volumes without reductions in production rates. MR6 can enhance all types of mixes, from asphalt concrete to hot rolled asphalt, and can be used in both base layers and surfacing applications.
MR6 technical data
When added to bitumen, MR6 modifies its properties by increasing the softening point and improving cohesion and plasticity range. These enhanced properties, when applied to asphalt, significantly improve its deformation resistance. Reports indicate reductions of up to 50% in wheel tracking rates in both asphalt concrete binder courses and hot rolled asphalt surfacing.
MR6’s properties, when applied to base and binder course layers, show an increase in material stiffness, making it ideal for heavily trafficked and high-stress areas such as bus stops, airport taxiways, and distribution hubs.
Environmental data
MacRebur commissioned Eunomia, an external consultant, to conduct a carbon footprint assessment of its MR6 product. The assessment revealed that MR6 demonstrates a saving of 3.77kg CO2e per 1kg of product used. When used in asphalt at the average recommended dosage of 3kg per tonne of asphalt, MR6 provides a saving of 11.32kg of CO2e per tonne of asphalt produced.
